I would just throw more wood in the wood heater. I made a wood heater from a 55 gallon barrel. That thing could m...

Jerry,
One of the guys back on Alloy Avenue used to say, "If there are no photos, it didn't happen."

Fascinating work. Keep posting. I have not posted much as I have not been in the shop or the foundry very much recently. I have been writing a novel.

Re: Wow, Its quiet here
I've been wondering what you are doing, Mite. I miss seeing you. Most of us here have passed through the painful phase of learning to cast metal so we don't ask many questions now. Now, when I go out to my foundry and fire up the furnace, I can be pretty sure the bronze casting will be just fine. I ...

Re: My Hand Planes
Why am I suspicious? Seems to me I've heard that before. I know an unreformed toolmaker when I see one; I see one in the mirror every morning.Saying that tho, this will probably by my last plane for the toolboxes

Re: My Hand Planes
I've never poured brass. I have mostly scrap copper wire, and some copper pipe and tubing, which I use to make Everdur. Most of my other scrap is either red brass plumbing fittings or lathe chips from heavy machinery bearings. Have you ever carved basswood? I had a friend back in Virginia who carved...
