my first brass pours were also short. its unnerving to let the brass get past the zinc burnout phase while your waiting for it to get hotter. . . . all that smooke and fire .

yesterday i did some trial pours of aluminum and added a few vent holes with thin welding wire pushed up thru the sand, hoping it would help etting the form to fill. it seemed to help. my aluminum temps were up to where its recommended they be and except for the sand problems, i was quite satisfied ...

what is the long cast iron mold in the far end, orig. used for ? it would make a great bread pan i'd bet. .. .
