Re: Cincinnati Shaper

Well, we have heard of anthill casting... Maybe it is time to start some mole tunnel casting.

I have a few moles in my yard and between 3 dogs panzy and a vicious cat, the moles are safe.

Looking good Dallen. So was the last one a 100% success?

Re: Cincinnati Shaper

Man Dallen, you have been busy over here! That CNC seems to be working like a charm. I have the CNC bug now and can't wait to make something do some CNC work!

Re: Cincinnati Shaper

did some work on the part in the above post, found what looks to be a slag inclusion hiding in the part of the ring where the gate was at, was able to cut the part out with a hacksaw for a photographic session here's the results http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd484/Superdave257/inclusion.jpg D...

Re: Cincinnati Shaper

Dallen, I read on your post you made on 12-1 about using 99.5% ferrosilicon... Is this all you have used? Have you tried 75% ferrosilicon? That is what I use with almost guaranteed success. If you need it I can spare a pound and send it your way... The oil filter will save you so much misery! I have...

Re: Cincinnati Shaper

Hey Dallen, I have spent most of the day catching up on the shaper build. You are one tough and persistent guy! In looking at the pictures of your iron I am reminded of some problems I had. The iron I was melting was a strange alloy. It was from engine cylinder liners. It would melt, turn dark and b...

Re: Hospital

Good luck mite! When my father-in-law had his shoulder operated on he was feeling pretty good and ignored the doctors orders. He undid all the doctor's work and then some. Follow the doctors orders and you will be back 100%!

Re: Cincinnati Shaper

I see the white stuff inside the crucible. I do get some of that at times and never really thought anything of it. My guess is it is oxide from the cast iron. I notice it happens more when I melt more previously melted cast iron. Fresh iron does not do it as much. I do not worry with it. I just thro...

Re: Cincinnati Shaper

Another thought on the sand looking stuff.... How old is the scrap you are using? In other words, could the scrap be covered in lead based paint which is leaving the residue?
