Re: Cement mixer to muller conversion

Thanks Harry, I'm hoping we'll get a bit of a thaw this winter so I can get a chance to use it before spring! Probably a lot to hope for here in Ottawa up in Canada though.

Re: Cement mixer to muller conversion

Yeah, I know you are. But even if you weren't, I probably would have stolen the idea anyhow.

Re: Cement mixer to muller conversion

I gave you full credit for the idea in the molding bench thread, Chirpy. Why reinvent the wheel when there was a guy down the road selling used barrels? Thanks for letting me steal your idea!

Re: 27.5 gallon molding bench

I built mine because I was tired of clearing off a workbench and laying down a tarp to catch loose sand and ramming up there, working out of a couple buckets that my sand all used to live in.

The bench is way nicer to work at, but my sand usually all dries out between sessions too.

27.5 gallon molding bench

I copied cae2100 and built a molding bench around half of a 55 gallon plastic barrel cut lengthwise. Works great and although it is empty in the pix, it holds 300 pounds of sand or more when it's full. I just built a wooden box around the half-barrel and bolted it to the inside of the box. There's a...

Re: Cement mixer to muller conversion

Oh, that does sound good. I know just where to get one too, just have to wait for my wife to make me redo the bathroom... My bench is built around half a plastic 55 gallon drum that I cut lengthwise, but I bet yours can hold more sand... I will try to dig up some pictures of mine for the molding ben...

Re: Cement mixer to muller conversion

I kind of feel that way every time I sit down in my office cubicle... Luckily it's my casting stuff that's covering everything else up in my shed when I get home! :)

Re: Cement mixer to muller conversion

Sand right now is 4% bentonite (half southern, half western) plus 1% dextrin (some of which has been burnt out) and 1/2% bituminous coal dust. Thinking about switching to wood flour from dextrin when I feel like replacing some of what has burnt out. The hope is that it will not burn out as fast as t...

Cement mixer to muller conversion

Ok, time to try posting something other than just my intro... I know some of you have seen this on the other forums, it was my summer project this year. Picked up a cheap cement mixer on sale at Princess Auto, Canada's answer to Harbor Freight. The idea was to turn it into a muller, very similar to ...

Re: Hi from Ottawa, Canada

Hi guys. Like I said, I've been lurking here now and then for a few years just keeping an eye on what projects etc. you guys are working on here that might not be posted on the other site(s). I agree that it does have a very different feel than the other forums. Quiet and close-knit, and I'm not her...
