Re: Hi I'm Harry
I have to agree with Rasper, I hate the entire facebook thing, and the people who run it. I keep seeing people going to fb with all sorts of things; model engines, antique engines, foundry work, etc. I categorically refuse to every have anything to do with fb. FB is the proverbial line in the sand t...

Re: 3D Printed Patterns
3D printed patterns have a lot of downsides to them, and the big thing is the surface finish, but one thing I really like about them is that I don't have to worry about the relative size of mating pieces. With wood patterns, If I don't take off the measurements exactly, then the pattern can be too l...

Re: 3D Printed Patterns
I have started printing all my patterns on a 3D printer, and have found a way to smooth the furface by buffing it.
I have given up on making wood patterns, and that is probably a good thing due to how much sawdust wood pattern making generates.
Dake engine patterns.

3D Printed Patterns
I purchased a Prusa XL, I guess it was last year, and have been playing around with it a bit. 14" cubed print envelope, which is pretty generous. I only have one printhead, but could add more in order to use different filament colors, or different filament material for each head. I get updates ...

Re: Kerosene Wick Stoves
For backup lighting, there is a smaller Dietz #1, 8 candlepower, 12" tall, 45 hour burn time, 36 oz tank, and a larger Dietz #2500, 15" tall, 12 candlepower, 75 hour burn time, 84 oz tank. They also make dual lantern/cookstove lanterns, but what I really need out of a lantern is as much li...

Re: Kerosene Wick Stoves
The incandescent gas lamp mantles produce very impressive amounts of light, but as I read up on the mantle material, apparently a major component of the mantle was/is thorium dioxide, which is radioactive. We always used those in scouting outdoors, so probably not a big issue, but probably not a goo...

Re: Kerosene Wick Stoves
I can't smell anything anyway, so odor is not a problem, and that saves a lot of showering, soap, and water too (saving the planet, one missed shower at a time, as I tell my wife). So I like the wick idea, and I think it is the least likely design to go into a runaway situation. Easy to light, easy ...
