Re: Compressor alternative for a Siphon Burner

Mine was set up on a light table as a vacuum, it has a 120 v motor on it. It pulls 20 in/Hg so it sounds a lot like the one you have. Small gast pump. I'll check it for pressure. I was going to try to use it for a vacuum mold table to use a shrink wrap and vacuum it down to the part and then pack sa...

Re: Compressor alternative for a Siphon Burner

5 hours of casting,...  I'm either working or sleeping. Sounds like the little pump is doing good. I'm going to check the one I have that is similar, maybe I'll take the old oil burner off the shelf. :) My garage compressor is trying to crap, well it's from Harbor Freight and is w...

Re: cart for my engine

I've seen several referances to these flame trainers, do they help, how much room do you leave around the crucible if/when making one, looks like I'm gonna be buying another bag of refactory. Really should just get my hind end in gear adn build a cupola, David, so many things to build, so little ti...

Re: Motorsport fans

What I've seen of it, that looks pretty crazy. There should be a lot of custom casting opportunities there!
Post away, or just put up some links and we'll find the rest. 8-)

Re: NIBF

I'm not even a fish, I'm just an egg. :P Discounts are great if you can use them. I get a discount from a tool place but their tools are way to expensive to start with. And, I get a discount at a hotel chain that never seems to be anywhere I want to go, plus they don't have hottub rooms so me and th...

Re: NIBF

That looks like a cool place to work, well maybe not cool but at least interesting. Didn't you say you were with Braken? They have closed a lot of the casting foundries here in the states.

Re: cart for my engine

You need a "Flame Trainer". :)
I don't know my little crucible got up to heat just fine in the big furnace and if you put bricks in, you'll have to heat them up. If your using oil, I don't think I would. :?:

Re: Gear Generators

Putting a draft on gears has always bugged me too. That's why I liked FrankG's approach. He would cut his gears and pulleys out of foam on his CNC machine, even cut his name in and cast it, lost foam, in petrobond (I think). They came out perfect. No coating with plaster or anything, he just rubbed ...

Re: Bill New Crucible

In Legend Mining budget crucibles, the #8 would be 8 Kilos of Copper, but it doesn't say what the capacity is in the premium ones. Probably a little more since it's 1 inch taller than the budget #8. I filled mine with sand and then poured it into a graduatd beaker and converted it for volume. That's...
