Re: Solid investment vs. ceramic shell

My technique is backyard shell casting for sure but it's working for me... I start with a styrofoam origional and brush on coats of wax to fill/smooth the surface.Using powdered 20 minute wall spackle(mixing what I need for the job) I brush on several coats allowing it to dry between coats, normally ...

Re: Degassing tool

Harry, I like your idea of dispersing the bubbles and will be glad to hear/see your results. The only question I have is will the bottom being open allow the gas bubbles escape from below as there is less resistance than the narrow slits(maybe I'm not seeing your plan correctly). In my case have been...

where is everybody?

Have ya'all wondered whats happened to all the folks that used to post on BYMC? They certainly havn't all shown up here or on the AA network.
Man, I think it's a shame, and can't imagine they have all stopped casting (that would really be a shame!).
Anyway,just wondering......

iron casting community

Don't know if this belongs here or in the Library,Harry will have to sort it out for me, LOL. Just viewed this neat video about an iron casting community having a demonstration/learning experiance in England. Check it out (if you've not seen it already) www.metalmonkeys.org pretty interesting. Looks...

Re: Trommel Build (rotary sieve or riddle)

Really slick idea Barry, Is there going to be a potential problem with weight deforming the cylinder as material is added inside? Might want to consider bracing between the rims to prevent any such distortion (maybe some metal angles connecting all three rims, bracing against sagging, etc.). Just a t...

Re: Hill Billy CNC

Thanks guys, 4C, I toyed with the idea of multiple adjustments and decided the 50% reduction would be most useful as the stylus /cutter diameters also need to be adjusted for the reduction and those other % would require a lot of extra sizes of each (read cheap).Actually the 50% has caused some prob...

Re: Hill Billy CNC

Thanks HT, it's pretty sturdy as the parallel main bars are "H" shaped(laying on their sides) to prevent any twisting. The pivots have nylon bearing surfaces with nylon washers between the support bars, all to prevent any drag so the tracing flows smoothly. I see twisting as the potential p...

Re: Hill Billy CNC

OK! finally getting back to the HBCNC,I've put it it semi-retirement for now. Am having better luck with Hill Billy CNC II,which seems to working well.Actually it's a pantograph with a Dremel tool attached and operates with a 50% reduction between the pattern and the piece being created (allowing fo...
