Re: Skillets to cook in

We have alot of cast iron cookware sold around this area, and Ive never really been that fond of cooking in the one we have tbh, it always seems to burn everything you put in it, so I usually tend to use the normal ones. Ive seen alot of videos where they're forging skillets out of steel sheet metal...

Re: Registration Closed again

midget white turkeys... I rather have a full size one rather than bite size one, lol. We tried to raise chickens here a while back, and they did good for laying eggs, but different wild animals killed a few of them and the other ones just ended up dying of old age, so we never did any animals for me...

Re: Registration Closed again

yea, Im all for getting together and doing some stuff again, Ive pretty much gotten my forging shed all set up, just need to make some storage for my punches/drifts, but that's easy enough to do really, lol. Right now, they're all in tin cans and such to keep it from being scattered, lol. I used to ...

Re: Registration Closed again

I've been thinking about this. I'll see what I'm able to do. I may try to open registration again and I know there is a question for verification somewhere. Harry has been really good at keeping us open with just a few glitches. This month has been crazy but I am doing pretty good. Had some more te...

Re: Registration Closed again

Ive seen some sites, when you sign up, they ask you a question about that topic that the forum is about, so maybe make the question about something to do with casting, then that might keep alot of them away maybe? I wish there was something I could do, Im usually up when they come in and start the s...

Re: My Hand Planes

Well, Im pretty much out of planes to make, so I bought one of the stanley trim planes to play with, which you find for around $10, one of these things: https://www.stanleytools.com/product/12-101/small-trimming-plane https://www.stanleytools.com/NAG/PRODUCT/IMAGES/HIRES/12-101/12-101_1.jpg?resize=5...

Re: My Hand Planes

Yea, I was planning on making a new tip/plug for mine and instead of 1/8" hole as the normal one uses, I was going to make one with a series of 1/16" holes in it, that way it'd make multiple really small rods all at once for doing really small fillets and such. I was going to make up some ...

Re: My Hand Planes

nah, I just use round wax rods and use heated fillet irons to melt it into the corners and shape the fillets that way, then scrape them in. If I made it using the profile of the leather fillets, it wouldnt have enough material to melt into the corners and actually form a fillet tbh. I could make an ...

Re: My Hand Planes

After a bit of sanding and a few coats of shellac, this is how that fillet plane has turned out. It has serious iridescent/cat's eye effect to it, which the light just dances off of it when you see it in person. 20240205_023228.jpg 20240205_023307.jpg 20240205_023406.jpg 20240205_023503.jpg 20240205...

Re: My Hand Planes

Here's another one for you guys to chew on, it's a simple one that I made up, but here is my version of a leather fillet plane. As leather fillets are quite expensive for use on patterns, you can easily spend $40-50 on just fillets alone when working on patterns for a larger project, and as my wax f...
