Trommel Build (rotary sieve or riddle)

I am attempting to set up my foundry to deal with weight issues as quickly and efficiently as possible. I do not have a desire to lift buckets of sand any more than absolutely necessary because I want to use this foundry when I am in my 70's. The thought is to design and build what will be needed in...

Re: Big muller, little budget

Thanks Harry. I will consider it. It mixed the sand quite nicely today, until I started to add water. Then as you said, it clumped and just got carried around a bit. I will work on it. A shield for the motor is already in work now.

Thanks for the instructions on how to post a video.

Re: Pit for the furnaces

Harry: I quit smoking after 30 years almost three months ago. So can you. Ask your doctor about Chantix. It takes away any reward (body rush) that you get from nicotine. You continue to smoke for a week or so while you start the medication. By the time your quit date rolls around, you will be ready ...

Re: Big muller, little budget

Yesterday was good. Even though I had a meeting and web hosting tragedy to take care of, I was able to get a couple of hours in the shop. I got both the scraper and squishing blades welded onto the axle inside the muller. Also, the top bearing which keeps the axle from moving around inside the mulle...

Re: Big muller, little budget

David: I am a Journeyman Machinist. The chances of me putting my hand in a running muller are somewhere between none and none. I learned respect for rotating machinery a very long time ago. Here in the Pacific Northwest we have lots of weather to keep the sand damp. I understand in a dry climate usi...

Re: Big muller, little budget

Harry: Thanks, I kind of suspected maybe the big reason for tilting the muller was for emptying. I will make this muller level. It will have a scraper and a squishier blade. If I need to I will add a wheel later. I welded the scraper into position this morning so it will not be much longer before th...

Re: Yet another pattern for flask sides

Ian b6: Yes, it will be interesting to see. These are things I have yet to learn. Do you mean that a casting can shrink more on one side than the other causing it to warp? I had not thought of that. Nudge: Most of my castings will require a flask under 24 inches in length and 6 in width. Only my fen...
