Hi I'm Harry
At this point in time I imagine all of the folks here already know me from the BYMC forum as w3. I was born in the early 60s and spent my whole life in construction starting in Residential/Commercial at an early age covering nearly every trade by the time I was 25 at which point I was doing remodel ...

Re: How about an introductions section!
Excellent suggestions David. I want to build a hierarchy in the subforums to create a drill down method of finding where to post and of course to make it easy to find those posts later. It requires a couple more clicks to get down to a particular post but in the long run will make it much easier to ...

Alternative molding, Block filling a flask
On my small flasks I have been using a 1 1/2" high drag and a 3 1/2" high cope. My thought was to reduce the sand used by using a wood block to take up some of the space. I was also trying to figure out how to keep my jolt squeeze from breaking any more of my patterns, that thing has some ...

Re: A Roof for the Foundry
I got the remaining steel trusses up yesterday along with 4 of the 5 sheets of metal roofing. It was getting late and the last one overhangs the fence where there is about a 5' drop so it is going to take the tall ladder to get up there to put screws in and I figured I would hit that fresh and also ...

A Roof for the Foundry
This was a great addition to the foundry. Not having to cover everything from bad weather and not having the sun beating down on me during hot weather are two great benefits. Here is a shot before the roof. You can see the small shelter I had put up over my molding bench, that was 5' x 12' and did a...

Re: Lil Scrapper
I came across this screw motor that looks to be from a power lift chair or a hospital bed. I had been looking for a satellite actuator arm but this was even better because I did not have to set up 12v, just plug it in and go. I welded a short nipple to the end of my manual lever that had a hole dril...

Re: Lil Scrapper
The hotface was firmed up well but still pretty wet so I pulled the light and put in a torch to help push the water out. Thats a new tank and turned down pretty low so it should last awhile. http://founddreaming.com/foundry/images/furnace/ls_drying.jpg Here is a look at my hand trowel finish job htt...

Lil Scrapper
Building a small scrapping furnace. It took me pretty much all day to get it set up and the insulating layer in. I placed the hotface on the floor so I could embed the pipe for the drain trough into it before putting in my inside forms. ID of the bore is 14" after the hotface goes on with a dep...
