Re: End of Summer...

I was looking at that pic last night and thought it looked like a giant class ring also, lol. As for tool making, I usually look at it this way, if I can get away from not having something or if it will only get used once or twice, Ill skip it, but if I do need it, I can either spend a few hours mak...

Re: My Hand Planes

yea, the plane should be pretty handy, it's designed so you can get up to a shoulder, or really close to it, like you would need to do for planing down the pads on a pattern where it needs to be machined. You dont have the long nose of the plane getting in the way, and it still acts as a smoothing p...

Re: My Hand Planes

Also, I hammered out a small claw hammers and a plane setting/adjusting hammer. The heads are made from some sucker rod (4130 or 4340 steel), which the drift, I made from a piece of coil spring from off of a train, claw hammer is 4oz, and plane setting hammer was 3.8oz I made the claw hammer because...

Re: My Hand Planes

Well, another plane for the list.. I was wanting a small bullnose plane for getting up into the areas I couldnt get normally, so after thinking about making one, we were working on the casting/forging shed, and we were trying to chisel out the board for the window trims and such, which that bullnose...

Re: My Hand Planes

Well, I got the mouth cut on the plow plane, which after alot of debating, I decided to go with a side escapement style, like a typical molding plane, which makes designing everything much easier and less likely to jam up with chips in use. I still need to shape the bottoms and cut the mouths on the...

Re: Patternmaking Spade/Paddle Bits/Tools

Sorry for the spam, but with the limit on pics, I kinda have to split it up a bit. This will be my last one for a while, and I know alot of you dont really watch videos, but here's some really rough videos that really arent edited at all, but they show the glue pot, wax fillet balls/irons/tools, and...

Re: Patternmaking Spade/Paddle Bits/Tools

Also, the crank neck chisels, Here's a better look at them, which were hidden under the carving chisels. Here they are without handles, which I just turned some ornamental/soft maple handles since they're never going struck or have any real prying force on them, they're just pairing chisels, so almo...

Re: Patternmaking Spade/Paddle Bits/Tools

I briefly mentioned the glue pot stuff, but here it is, lol. I was wanting to play with hide glue since I saw how fast and easy it was to build up a pattern using it, and it really is really easy to work with and is almost like superglue in how fast it sets up, but much easier to clean up and such, ...

Re: Patternmaking Spade/Paddle Bits/Tools

Here is the Toolbox #2, which is larger bits of stuff, lol. I didnt really make this box, but I was at a thrift store the one day and saw this box, which at this place, if you dont buy something then, it probably wont be there a week from then. I saw it there and something about this box just clicke...
