Harry: Okey dokey, will do. I will start by removing all the thin sheet metal blades which I was dubious about even while making them. Then I will make a plate like you have and see how it does. My new blades will be plate rather than sheet metal.

I used a concrete form stake for my blades, they are almost 3/8" thick and about 2" wide. I also welded on a vertical wall scraper on the ends of them. Originally I had supports angled down but I found I did not need them and by not having them there I was able to position the striker plate lower. The vertical pieces pass by behind the plate as it goes around really giving the sand a good squeeze.
I was just thinking playing with the mixer blade is about the easiest thing for you to do at this point, at least on mine it comes out with a single bolt.
