Welcome to FoundDreaming

FoundDreaming came about in a way that many things in my life happen. While toiling one day shoveling sand to mix the concrete floor of my shop my mind was wandering as it often does. For a few weeks I would visit off and on the topic of coming up with a name for my Foundry venture and at this moment as my body was busy humping sand my mind was looking for options away from the task at hand. It occurred to me what I was doing at the moment, something akin to a runners high, the plateau you can hit when your body goes into automatic mode and your mind takes off on it own. It occurred to me I had just found myself dreaming while in the middle of shoveling literally tons of sand and founddreaming immediately screamed out at me as a homophone of foundryman which is what I was working to become so at that moment I knew what to name my venture and "I was found dreaming" found itself scribed into the fresh concrete in the doorway leading out to my foundry.
FoundDreaming is for the foundry man. There are plenty of sites to teach how to cast metal with BackYardMetalCasting being the one I would recommend anyone to that has the interest in melting metal. My hope for this site is that it will in time become more of a gallery of processes and projects that are the result of the accomplished foundry men (and women of course) who have stepped up with the commitment of refining their foundry and abilities. To that end the focus here will be towards products and how to get piles of them from piles of scrap or ingot with pattern making squarely in the middle. This is all about making a foundry into a viable business. The FoundDreaming site will be both a collection of pages dedicated to the construction and use of a small foundry and a sales tool for not only my own but also the products of others.
With the inherent dangers associated with melting and casting metal it is intended that this site is for adults though I will not exclude anyone because of age as there are some very responsible and talented younger people out there whose interests have lead them down the foundrymans path. With this in mind this forum will be kept somewhat clean in terms of language and images but I will forewarn everyone now that if you are here you are considered and adult who can make their own decisions about what you read and view and these pages may contain images or language that may not be considered work safe or appropriate for children or people who are oversensitive about nudity (art) or colorful language. This is not an invitation to post pornography in words or pictures rather it is an indication of freedom of speech that will find a balance here, nor is it an invitation to be rude or abrasive to others. The idea is to feel free in speaking our minds while moderating ourselves and having a thick enough skin to take the criticism of others without it becoming to personal.
