A Crucible Pouring Pitcher. ala HHWC

Post by Jammer »

HHWC made one like this a few years ago, I liked it and put it on "The List!".

6" stove pipe, a couple 1/4" bolts, sheet metal screws, a piece of 3/4" flat (left from the pouring shank), some old ceramic blanket, and a wooden rod.
I just cut the pipe to fit the crucible height, screwed a bottom plate on it and bolted the handle on with a heat shield. I wet some blanket with Sodium Silicate and lined the pipe, coated it with some refractory dust, and heated it over the electric furnace to set it. I made a bail for the top to hold the crucible and skim the melt, like the one Harry did on one of his. I tried to get a picture of the pour but the Brass was too hot and started smoking like crazy. I hope I don't get sick from the zinc fumes, I drank about a half gallon of milk. :?
