I wonder how good that really is, I have put it on my iphone and when this damn weather clears up enough I'll give it a try. Thanks Jammer

That's pretty cool alright. I did a little reading about that app apparently, it doesn't operate on the same principle as an IR thermometer rather it measures/estimates temperature based on colour so whatever it is you're measuring the temperature of needs to be black when cold. That's unfortunate, it would be REALLY cool if you could just point your phone at the puddle of aluminium in the crucible and get a good estimate of the temperature.
