Re: Makking patterns for a steam engine
cut down and rough milling prior to boring out core, Going to have to make a special form tool to cut a recess with the proper radius and draft so taking a break now.
Re: Makking patterns for a steam engine
This is going to be a really fun project. Steam engines are one of the things I have always thought might be a nice little money maker. Loads of retired folks out there with milling machines who would like castings sets to finish on their own.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints the sinners are much more fun...

Re: Makking patterns for a steam engine
It is definetly going to test my skills as well as my patience, Its a pretty large project with alot of parts to cast. I dont know if there is a market for an engine like this, not to mention what a casting set like this would cost. I researched several different engines before deciding on this one, mostly because the castings could be somewhat universal and used to build different types of engines from the same patterns with only minor changes. heres a couple of pics of the engine and crosshead..

Re: Makking patterns for a steam engine
Its actually a replacement engine for a locomobile, easily adaptable to a marine engine though.
