no not a perfectionist, I just know that I could of done better on the crank so I cut the pattern apart last night and fixed the twisted grip so it will lay flat and have been working off and on most of today in between other chores on a new core box that will make a square core, instead of one thats close to round.

besides this one looks ugly to me and the brass one I want to make shouldn't look this bad. remember pictures only show what a person wants them to show.

this is the first of I hope only one more mold to be made with this part. I gave it a try again today after redoing the paint and hand rubbing graphite into the paint, the other thing I did was before trying to pull the pattern I drilled a small hole in each of the sections that didn't already have a screw hole in them and cleaned out the ones that were already there.

the patterm pulled with very little resistance this time, not the fight that I have been going thru to get it out of the sand.

That looks great, are you ready to pour?

6 hours later and the building crew has not arrived, still on their way...? :(

getting closer, had some stuff left to do on the flask, like put keys on it. and dug out three more buckets of oil sand this flask just eats the stuff like my little brother used to eat biscuits and gravy.

I wanted to put the pattern and all the gating on a board, but with my redneck flask keys I can't so I get to do it the old fashion way loose pieces, nice thing is that pattern half came our really good today. with them extra vents in the pattern, just glad it worked. I was getting ready to try some of FC's suggesting like the turn buckle only I didn't have one and was gonna use a screw thru a board on top of the flask.

you just can't trust them building crews

got the core box for the crank handle finished this morning and finally got around to seeing if it would make a square core which it does. Now to fix the core print on the pattern so that it will take a smaller core of the right size.

damn I'm getting lost in what I have and haven't done, rammed up a new crank and used a core from the new core mold it worked great nice square hole, problem was the mold didn't fill all the way sorry no photo of it.

the rest of the day was spent working on the crank pattern, and trying to get this flat belt pattern to the point that its ready to pour.

I'm starting to think that the shop monster is lacking in faith of me finishing this project from the looks that I get from him at times.

Thanks to my buddy giving me some paint hes had since we both were laid off, that took all day to dry, I didn't get much done plus its little piece work. all the pieces have to be pinned down so that they will stay in place when the sand hits the flask. But the pins have to be loose so that the board can be removed when the flask is flipped. Gates from the runner will be put in when the cope is rammed up so that the runner has to fill first. I still have to make core prints and a core pattern.

The gates will be placed at each one of the gussets which will be lined up in both halves of the pattern so that there will not be any large drops or waterfall effect from the molten metal which can wash out the sand.

not much headway today did get a core box made for the core that I need to put in the center of the hub, still have to make a couple stick on core prints. hope to ram this thing up about half way tomorrow so I won't have so much sand to deal with on Friday morning when I hope to pour it if the patterns cooperate and pull out clean.

this mornings work, I got a little closer to what I am wanting in the crank handle but no cigar again as the mold misaligned when I closed it up, think I'll grab a piece of 5/4 at the lumber yard and make a flask a little more precise plus put some good pins and handles on it.
