Cincinnati Shaper
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
I think that resembles a Bowie. Have you seen the real Jim Bowie knife? I saw it on a program and it was a lot longer and narrower than any of the modern Bowies. Yours looks like the original.
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
they had less metal to work with back then, I've seen pictures of real ones but that isn't the reason I made mine the width that I did, the piece of stock that I had was only 1.5 inches wide so I worked with what I had, the one laying on the stool is about 2 inches. I'm trying to dicker for some elk antler to make a handle with for it.

I been working on it for a couple of years now, so I figure that it might take me a spell longer to finish it. actually I hope to finish it in before too long.

Actually I figured why not I've really like the patterns that have been printed for me out in Nevada, Anyway I figure that its about time that I stepped up in the Tech world.
Will keep you guys updated as I make a mess out of assembling the thing.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
I've been watching DavidF's progress. He got a Folger 3D printer. I think he has 5 of them now. ?? I was thinking about getting a kit to convert my CNC to a 3D printer, but I like cutting things on the CNC. I don't think I can do both. That would be cool though, have the cutter head and 3D head on the carriage and just switch back and forth depending on what I'm doing.

Might as well mount a Laser cutter on there too, while I'm at it.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
you can do that built the framework to handle the spindle motor they all you have to do is switch out to the extruder head when you need to do 3D printing, SVSeeker switches back and forth all the time. not sure what the software requirements would be for a dual purpose machine but it can be done even 3 way is possible, I just seen something that was showing the router, laser, and printer on one machine.
for the size of stuff I'm wanting to do I think the printer will be all that I need. anyway I need to get my feet wet before I say I need to make it bigger, or add more features.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
OK, I'm going to fire up the furnace in a day or three, not sure when. I found a red ant nest in the back yard this morning that has a entrance large enough for me to hit with a stream of molten aluminum, SO I'm going to try to either burn the backyard off so I don't have to mow it, or cast an ant nest just for something to do. Besides I hate ants they mess with my pressure switch on my water pump.
anyway I'm hoping to pour and A10 full of molten aluminum down that hole in the ground.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
We haven't had many ants this year. If we get some rain their hills will probably show up. I had a big hill behind the garage and was thinking about pouring some hot metal in it. it was in some tree roots so I just give them some ant food.
