Re: Cincinnati Shaper
I purchased the item in the above photo, its working with very small pivots on watch wheels.
My question for the artsy folks in the room is, how do I replace the cloth lining in the bottom of the box as its in a real need of replacement. The top I pretty much have it figured out as its just a frame to hold the cloth in the box and some padding to puff it up with.
I really want to fix this box up thhe right way, I just don't know if your suppose to dampen the lining or what?.

What is the item used for Dave

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
the tool is used to polish the pivots on the ends of shafts in watches and clocks, some of which are smaller than half a MM.

You must have very nimble fingers Dave, I would end up with a mess

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
That looks tough, they do sell some spray on phlox or felt like stuff. I imagine the original is felt that is heated and wet, it's pushed down with a pattern of some kind. I don't know if it has to be special stuff or not. Maybe just the felt from the craft store. You would have to experiment before trying it on the box.

don't know about the nimble fingers, I'm planning on messing up plenty figuring out how to use the thing.

Its not felt, just a thin piece of purple cotton cloth, thats whats stumping me is how did they get it down in the recesses without having wrinkles all over the top of the thing. I can't flock it because of the way the things made. May just have to leave it alone. would be nice to reline it.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
here's a photo of the inside of the case without the tooling that goes in it. It's not in the greatest of shape with holes worn in it and its also pretty filthy looking.
I may try have to take a 40 mile one way trip up to wood crafters supply and see what they say about it, or go too the library and see if I can find some info on the subject.
