I doubt that there will be more then one more of this part made on this machine, if any. there were reasons for me not grinding clearance on the bit, number one being that I didn't want to bit sloping around inside the receiver frame if the bit holder happened to come loose.

most of the damage to the receiver was actually done while trying to figure out how to make the cut that I needed to. actually a lot of it was done when I drove the bit into the receiver with a hammer

yes I could of ran the shaper faster but when your cut is only about 5/16 inch long theres no sense in running it any faster.

oh, ok, yea, you dont need to do the relief all the way back of the tool, just where it's actually going to be cutting, lol I probably would have done it around 1/2" back from the cutting edge to give clearance for everything.

It was pretty interesting seeing it used as a slotter, I think I probably would have cut it undersize and just filed it to size, but thats just me, lol. My shaper has a vertical slotting attachment that was available for it, but I dont have it myself and dont know if I would really use it that much anyhow.

yea, most of the time with machining the stuff is mainly just the setup, if you didnt have to deal with that, it would only take 10-15 mins to knock out that part really. Have you gotten the thing all together yet then? Just curious how it actually works, my knowledge of guns and all of that stuff is pretty much nil, so no idea how it even works tbh.

I had a friend in California who designed computers for Hewlett Packard. He used to say that most of the things people use computers for can be done better and faster with a pencil and a piece of paper.

well its been about 5 months since I posted anything, guess I better do some reading and catch up on the gossip.

I have a couple small casting projects that I would need to do, but can probably mill the parts out faster then I can make them by casting, but where the heck is the fun in doing something the easy way.

hope all of you guys had happy holidays, me and the Shop Monster stayed inside hiding from the rest of the world and out of trouble.

I have missed hearing about your day to day activities. Most people's day to day activities are boring; whereas yours have always been interesting. Probably due to the fact that you are doing something, while most people seem to spend most of their time sitting around watching other people do things on television. Keep posting.

Hi David, It's been a while for about everyone. All my projects will have to wait til warmer weather. I've been playing with Free Cad and trying to make some patterns on the CNC. Not getting very far.
