We've been spared so far in Southern Tennessee. Just staying above freezing at night and then tries to get to 50 during the day. Foggy and rainy, yuk!

Actually, we've been over 30 degrees the last two weeks and all this weekend. 40 degrees at the moment. Supposed to sunny up next week and drop to the mid/high 20's. 8-)

Dallen, I read on your post you made on 12-1 about using 99.5% ferrosilicon... Is this all you have used? Have you tried 75% ferrosilicon? That is what I use with almost guaranteed success. If you need it I can spare a pound and send it your way...

The oil filter will save you so much misery! I have not had a single clogged tip since I installed a filter.

This is shrinkage. You have a nice big feeder there, but the gate between the feeder and the part is very small. The small gate froze before the part was solidified and when the part was cooling it sucked iron from the hottest piece. In this case it was the part next to the gate. Make this bigger and you will not have this problem in the next piece. You will have more cutting to do to remove the feeder, but you will have a nice part to grind and finish.

suppose to be like 17 F here tonight thats -5 C for the guys downunder. but its suppose to warm up tomorrow to like 40 F so I might get something done outside if its not too muddy from the snow melting.

one thing about it getting cold is I got clothes enough to keep me warm, but when it gets hot I got way too many of em.
