remade a part today, I wasn't real happy with the first one I made. Also been working on the wood have the forearm slimmed down considerable now. plus I cut the butt stock off and inch yesterday and reset it in the tangs of the receiver so now I can drill the stock for the tang screws.

Speaking from an aesthetic view, that hump in the top of the stock bothers my eye. The rest of the gun is absolutely gorgeous. Here is what my Marlin 1888 looked like:



I always thought those old Marlins had the most beautiful stocks anywhere.

that was put there for a reason and will slowly as time goes by be cut off, but if I had of made the stock straight on top then had (and may still have ) of moved the butt plate forward from where its at the stock would of been too narrow to fit the plate, As it is now I can cut up to about 3 inches off the stock from the shoulder end and the butt plate will still fit.

Its a work in progress, I'm trying to make parts for a tang sight, one thing about it when you get tired of making parts or fitting them you can always go back to sanding, there's always sanding to do.

I won't say that I planed it out, just that I knew that I wanted the option of being able to cut the stock off and still fit the butt plate to it at anytime during the build, one of the things that will be done before the finish is put on the wood is to take it out and test fire it, that way if I need to make any adjustments to any thing like shortening the stock the finish won't be in the way.

Nothing like sticking a saw in twelve layers of hand rubbed Tung Oil to make a guys day feel complete

ok, I', still working on the gopher special just laid the sandpaper down for a little bit to work on some other things like the rear sight.

I got the leadscrew made which will run the sight apeature up and down the leaf. so here's a couple of photos of it.

the end of it had to be cross drilled. The hole is .045 in diameter, the rod is .093 so not a lot of room to make a mess with it.

and I worked on the hammer and mainspring some today heres a shot of the internals

had to take the hammer out and have the end of it build up which I had to file most of what had been added back off, amazing what you have to do to get one of these to run.

Guess I'll go back to sanding tomorrow if it doesn't start raining

I have been using Photobucket for posting photos i don't really care how long they last. You are right. They sure junked it up.

For photos that I want to remain on a forum, I use my own server, the one I get with my DSL internet service which comes with a good bit of free server space for hosting a web site. I use it instead as my personal Photobucket and link to that.
