New adventure... Glass

Post by Jammer »

After making a Christmas ornament at a local glass shop, I thought I would melt some glass at home and have a little fun. Well, it melted and it was an experience but I don't think I'll be doing much of it in the future. It was a circus and I didn't get many pictures of the process, then a big storm moved in and I had to shut it all down. Managed to get a disc about 3" diameter, I really only wanted it to be about 2". I put it in the Kiln to cool it slowly so it doesn't crack, hopefully. The glass was a lot thicker and stickier than I thought it would be. We'll see what it looks like tomorrow and get some more pictures.

Well, it didn't look like anything. Must have still cooled to quickly and broke into several pieces. A lady told me she would put her glass into the kiln heated to around 1000 F and shut it off and left it closed until the next day. Didn't work for me, but my kiln is small and probably doesn't hold the heat.
I tried a couple things today but they already look bad.
Glass is hard.
