New part for the CNC Machine

Post by Jammer »

I've been working on the 4th axis for the CNC. Had some trouble with the electronics and then finally found a break in the PC board. Maybe a cold solder joint, anyway, I bypassed the problem and the stepper is working fine. I need a chuck or a faceplate to mount the project on, a chuck is expensive and I'm not sure if it's all going to work. So I cut face-plate out of foam and did a quick lost foam casting today. I had some lumpy areas on the face, I think there was a void under the foam. I cleaned it up with the lathe and drilled the hole for the shaft. Looks good, I hope it works. I have to make some clamps to hold the part. And, I need to change the Z-axis a little so it doesn't hit the face-plate.

I put the foam piece in a little stainless steel bowl with green-sand. I just like using green-sand, I don't know why, just seems to work better for me. I leave it a little dry, so it doesn't have full green strength. Just enough to hold it's shape. The rough spot on the plate was supposed to be my initials, just left a rough hole instead.

No doubt it's the gods reminding you of the ultimate futility of human vanity.

I have a wax floating in the wax tub waiting to be invested, burned out, and cast. I have been too lazy to do it.

I still have the 2 waxes to burn out, I was waiting to get an idea of the kiln temp and not have big storms coming.

hit the pawn shops and find one that doesn't know what the battery indicator means and tell em its broken, but you'll give me 10 bucks for it anyway. and fluke repairs their stuff.

I should mention that using a piece of galvanized metal isn't a very good idea to protect the concrete. It worked but I, of course, spilled the aluminum and it fused to the metal and warped it. I was using some old plywood but it would stink so bad while the metal burned into it, then I would stink and the wife wouldn't let me in the house.
