I finally got around to weighing the ali cannon the other neight. It is just a bit over 3.5kg or 7.7lb.
So working on that the bronze one should be around 9~10 Kg or 20~22lb. the bore on the bronze one will be 25mm or 1"

I still need to get a good one, and I still need to see if there is any others joining in.

I would like to but first I have to get some measurments so I can make a mess of a patten, or just jerk something out of space that might look like a cannon barrel.
I need to read the contest rules see how long I have to do this in.

Anyway I have bigger problems than coming in second in a cannon contest, I'm burning the wall out of the blue pig, hungry little hog it is. check out this photo

i'm going to have to it looks like dig out something like an inch and a half and replace it with 3000 Degree High Strength Refractory. plus I'm trying to switch over to Oil as a fuel for casting.

The furnace will be fine :) while you can fit the crucible in that is
The cannon only needs to look like one and it need not fire as long as it has a core in it, it is OK.

Here is the thread to submit any official entries to the 2011 Cannon Casting contest. The submission date is 11:59 PM on Dec 31, 2011. Anyone is eligible to compete, but remember that only one entry per person counts for the final judging.

Complete rules below:
Code:
1: The contest will be to cast a cannon, of any size, shape, or thickness.

1.1: For the purposes of this contest, a "cannon" is any object, cast in metal,
which contains a substantial hollow cylindrical bore (deeper than its
diameter) open at one end and closed at the other. Making a breech-loading
cannon that is cast in two pieces (one of which has a hollow bore open at both
ends) and assembled is acceptable as well.

1.2: The cannon must be cast. The submission must contain at least one picture
of the cannon in its as-cast state, with no surface finishing operations
or other surface modifications having been done. While surface modifications
can be done to the final entry, this is a casting contest, and the judging
will be primarily focused on as-cast quality.

1.2.1: Suitable metals for casting are any alloys containing more than 50% of
either aluminum, copper, or iron.

1.2.2: Any casting process (sand cast, investment, ceramic shell, etc.) is
acceptable.

1.2.3: The bore MUST be cast in place using a core of some sort, not cast solid
and drilled out later.

1.2.4: The cannon is not required to function. For safety and liability
reasons, any entrants wishing to make a functioning cannon must
understand that they do so AT THEIR OWN RISK and that they alone are
responsible for their safety and compliance with any laws, ordnances,
etc. that may apply to them. Pictures or video of the cannon being fired
may be included with an entry but will not be used for judging.

2: Acceptable entries will be posted to a sticky thread established for the purpose of
this contest.

2.1: Entry format will be as follows: A post in the thread containing at least one
picture of the cannon in its as-cast state, at least one picture of the mold
used to cast the cannon, and any other pictures the entrant wishes to include,
as well as commentary describing the casting process and/or links to any other
threads that detail the casting process.

2.2: Creation of dedicated threads regarding the procedure of each casting is
encouraged, but not required. If you have more than one post's worth of
information on a given entry, create a new thread for it to keep the entry
thread easier to navigate. Of course, the more detail provided about how a
casting is made, the better.

2.3: Only ONE entry will be allowed per person. That entry can be changed up until
the submission deadline. For my convenience, please clearly indicate which
entry you intend to enter. I will assume the latest entry in the thread unless
told otherwise, but it would be best to have them unambiguously labeled.

2.3.1: Also, if you post something in the entry thread that looks even vaguely
like an entry but isn't, please say explicitly that it's not intended
to be an entry.

2.4: The entry submission deadline is December 31, 2011, at 11:59 PM Eastern
Standard time.

2.5: No entry completed before Feb 1st, 2011 is eligible to compete.

3: There will be one judging category, for the best overall cannon.

3.1: Judging will take place by popular vote through forum poll, as done for the
thin casting contest.

3.2: Entries will be judged on the technical difficulty of the casting, the quality
of the casting before any machining or other modifications (at most, it is
permitted to clean the casting and remove sprues or risers), and the artistic
merit of the finished piece. Auxiliary hardware (e.g. carriage, wheels, etc.)
or the fabrication thereof is not part of the judging. The picture posted in
the judging thread is to be of the cannon as-cast.

3.3: There will be no formal prize distribution.
