Hope all is well with everyone. Been pretty quiet in here.
I've been practicing with a band, so more beating drums than building. We'll see where it goes. Otherwise, nothing new to report..
Beers!
Checkin' In
Re: Checkin' In
Still alive here, havnt done any casting tho even tho I really want to, lol. Just waiting on the weather to warm up first.
Re: Checkin' In
I have a few plans but I always do. Not sure what I'll be able to get done. I'm trying to recruit my grandson to help me out. First, I have to teach him to drive, then I'll probably never see him again unless he needs gas money.

Re: Checkin' In
I like hearing from you guys.
I have been busy writing a novel. That occupies much of my time. My metal casting days appear to be over. Casting lost-wax investments single-handed is a bit much for a man my age. Some of my investments have weighed up near a thousand pounds. I have a gantry crane to handle them, but still.
I do still ride my motorcycle. I am more careful now and go slower to account for my slower reaction time.
Richard.

We like hearing from you. It doesn't matter that you don't cast anymore, totally understand the getting older. It is not for sissies. I'm still trying but sticking to less than 15 pounds. How is the novel going? Is it the same one or a new one.
Re: Checkin' In
Novel writing has been a lengthy process. I have always had a facility with the written word, which I assumed would qualify me for writing fiction. The wake-up call came when my former wife, who was reading my first drafts, told me, "Richard, your descriptions of the locations and of the land around them are superb, but your characters are boring." She then went on to suggest that I switch to writing travelogues. That was when I realized I knew almost nothing about writing fiction. So I began to learn and to find my own voice instead of trying to imitate other writers. It has been a process. Kind of like bronze casting. I kept failing until finally I could pour a good casting most of the time.
I have found that if I am not engaged in mastering something that I cannot do, (and what some people would say I am crazy for even trying to do), then I am drying up and slowly dying.
Of course we are all drying up and dying no matter what, but we can make the journey a trip worth taking.
Richard

I keep messing with new stuff. I want to try some Microwave Kiln melting, maybe just glass or small amounts of metal. I have a setup to try some Iron smelting on a small scale, not sure it will work but what the heck, I'll give it a shot.
When I keel over there won't be anything left but a bag of bones.
