That sort of reminds me of an event at a local car show, they'd take an old beat up car rev it at full throttle until the engine blew up. They'd time how long it took and sell 50/50 raffle tickets, the person with the ticket that had the closest time without going over would would win and the remained to the money would go to a local charity.
