Foredom tool

Post by Rasper »

I have a new tool waiting for me when I go up to my shop in California on Monday: a Foredom 1/3 hp flexible shaft tool. For finishing up bronze sculpture castings it has to be the best thing going. I bought it from Otto Frei in San Francisco. They have the best price I could find anywhere by almost a hundred dollars. They are $296.00 and everyone else is almost $400.00.

Hello Richard, lucky you; have had a Fordom flex-tool on my wish list for some time now.I use a couple of "electric die grinders" with flexi shafts & dental bits for carving bone.Totally sick of the extreme heat we are having in Aus' as fire bans don't allow for playing with burners & molten metal. Best wishes, Trev.

This Foredom is the best thing that's happened since they invented McMaster-Carr. I'm making up an order for a bunch of different sanding and grinding tools for it——from whom? From McMaster-Carr of course. The great thing about this size of tools is that they are cheap. A hundred dollars buys a whole bag of stuff.

The Foredom is a bit pricey, but what a relief to see some real quality. It's like the old Sioux brand electric drills I have; they never wear out.

Another new toy today.

I have been wanting to put together a high pressure sprayer for cleaning the cores out of my cast sculpture pieces, but those pumps are three or four hundred dollars. For cleaning up a sculpture once every two or three weeks? I don't think so. But it is hard on the hands. That sharp bronze tears your hands up.

So today I found a pump on Craig's list for $20.00.

I'll be here in California for three more weeks. More foundry toys.
