the future of this forum

Our leader, Harry, the owner and founder of this forum, has not signed in here since July 8, 2012. One must assume that at some point this thing is going to crash and that that crash will possibly be the end. We should probably back up some of the stuff we have posted here, such as dallen's recent thread on his shaper, as too valuable to lose. That way it can be re-posted over on AA if the end comes.

I exchanged e mails with him some months ago. He was fine and busy with his CNC business.

Who knows!! I'll stick around as long as it's here. Moderate what I can. I save info I want on my computer. AA just drives in circles, same questions and answers go around and around..

Well, most of the "Professionals" have gone, Abby, Murray, Harry and others. These guys had a lot of good info but were aggravated to the point of leaving, never to return. I feel that AA has been taken over by bookworms and self proclaimed know-it-alls. I have been guilty of that myself. I'm surprised that Rasper and BobS has stayed as long as they have.

over on AA its the guys that say up front that they have never melting anything more then an ice cube and say that they don't want to learn but want to melt iron and make steel.

I liked Harry never met him but I like him, you ask him a question and he'd give you and answer.

you may want to check in at http://www.metalworkingfun.com/ thats where I normally post stuff at. good bunch of guys and you don't have to be a mechanist to join, just like making stuff. anyway there are some good reads over that way.

Bob S came here for a while, but he got annoyed by a glitch in the forum server that wasn't being handled by an administrator, so he left.

I handle the folks who either already know everything, or don't want to learn anything, by simply not reading their threads. Another large class of people over there that I mostly ignore is the group who are striving for the perfect burner, or for the perfect furnace. Turbulators and atomizers and filters and pumps with names I can't even pronounce. Newer and better hot faces when they haven't even used their old ones. It's like they are all dressed up with no place to go.

But then there are still a bunch of guys over there who pour metal.

Funny thing is Harry is still at #3 in total posts, HHWC is #2,(Hasn't been on for a couple years), I've slipped to #9 and Murray is #10.
Maybe a dozen or so actually cast metal, only about 30 active posters out of 3850 members.

I'm staying as long as this forum keeps running, I find its rather more personal here, and a decent bunch of bloke's hand out here :)
