Found Dreaming

Here are a couple builds. You have probably seen these. The blue one is along the lines of what I was thinking. Just a couple 25# weights and some scrapers, maybe a little smaller. I am always concerned where the sand might clog up or get into a pivot or bearing, so I like the tube up the center and kind of suspending the wheels and plows to keep them out of the sand.

my muller is built on the lines of the Scott Dixion (blue one) which is a modified version of Steve C.'s muller.

I used a planter wheel bearing to spin the wheel in my muller off of, its been in the sand for about 5 years now and still hasn't loosened up. the bearings in the center tube are standard cup and cone wheel bearings I fixed the tube so it could be greased but have never had to pump any grease into it because of the RPM of the muller.

the more the muller can squeeze oilbonded sand the better the sand will work in the flask, its the pressure of being squeezed and worked that brings the oilbonded sand to life.

only thing I know about it is what was posted in the link that Jammer posted. but its basically a simplified Steve C. muller with a store bought gear box.

a lot of people do the same thing to mullers that I've seen done to furnace's they get way too complicated, the muller for oil bonded sand needs to do 2 things, 1. it needs to put pressure on the sand while smearing it around, and 2. it needs to mix the sand and roll it over so that it all gets worked.

My muller has one plow and one wheel, based off of Steve C.'s book but dumbed down a bunch for and easy build. the wheel is locked so that it can only raise up about a half inch off the floor. Only time I've had problems is when the sands too cold and the old worn out 1 HP motor doesn't want to starts cause it can't spin up fast enough,

I expect that, but so far I haven't got to use it, LOL!
