I did that for a project I had and never finished. With a drill it came out real nice and even. My brother showed me this years ago for making his silver jewelry. He just twisted silver wire and soldered it in place.

That would not be casting, and if you used that technique for a pattern, you would have hours of work killing all the backdraft

I was trying to use it for investment casting. Pour a polyurethane mold and cast wax then do the melt out.
