I wholeheartedly agree, Jammers pictures both from work and his travels are always some of the best foundry stuff I have ever seen. Maybe you should do a coffee table picture book with a past and present theme.

Well, we made it home OK. Had quite a trip, drove to St. Louis and on to Sullivan Mo., looked around at the old Pea Ridge Mine. There are rumors they are going to reopen it, I didn't see much activity. I couldn't get very close so I don't have any pictures.
We went on to Maramec Furnace in Missouri, it was a great area. The furnace is in excellent condition as are the many forges used to refine the iron and to make items. The best thing about the park, it has a river that flows right out of the side of a mountain, crystal clear water and a trout hatchery.
Here are some pictures of the furnace.
Forges with the furnace in back.
Iron ore pit
Trip hammer
Charge bucket

Here's some pictures of the water and trout.
There was one big rainbow we saw, probably over 24", the rest were about a foot long.
There were several guys fishing, all were catching fish but had to put them back at this time of the year, they said.

Latz, I thought you were further up north. We came right across I-70.
And, David, I thought you were pretty far away yourself. Oklahoma just sounds a long way off.
Thanks Harry, I have had some classes and worked on a paper for a time. These digitals make it so easy.
On to a place I must return to. Bonne Terre Mine in Missouri, an old Lead mine. Most of the structure is still there, rusting away, but they have opened a museum. Some of the best rock and mineral samples I've seen. Galena, Fluorite, some hematite and lots of Quartz and Calcite. We got there late so the guy let us look around for free. I got in a hurry and didn't take pictures of the rocks. But, there is a lot of machines.
