We lost another good friend

Post by Jammer »

I hate to report the passing of a friend and fellow metal caster. Chuck Pickering lll known by us as chucktn. I know he was a frustrated caster like some of us but was learning and trying some different things. He was a machinist and had made several small Sterling Engines and some air powered ones. I went to his house a few years ago and we cast a few things, basically just had some fun. He'll be missed.

It seems that metal casting and metal shaping don't have many young guys. I would guess that 90% of the guys under 30 now couldn't drive a nail with a hammer. But they can swing a mean video game.

Yea, for the most part that's true, but I think most have just moved away from forums and more towards places like reddit and discord, which Im on discord always helping people with casting questions during the spring and summer time. You do get some of the dumbshits that probably should up thier life insurance just to handle a screwdriver, but most I see are pretty OK. I think the 3d printing/lost resin investment casting stuff has brought alot of younger people into the casting scene. We get alot coming in from reddit and that seems like half is bad advise, and the other is just trolls trying to get people to do stupid stuff, so we're always cleaning up the messes from there.
