not really, ice is gone for the moment but you never know when it will show its ugly head around here. if it would get back to warm weather I would go back to trying to accomplish what I want done. Did move some of the foundry stuff around to make it a little easier to play with, and found out that I need a electric motor for the pump drill doesn't spin fast enough.

I did receive the submergable pump that I got off of evil bay and tried it out on the burner, it worked ok with no crucible in the furnace have to wait for a warm day to try to melt with it.

otherwise I been staying busy putting thoughts to the cad program for a CNC Router. hope to add in the Z Axis slide for the spindle tonight if the damn dog will leave me alone, little mutt thinks he's the boss now.

been thinking about this router I'm wanting to build and I think I'm going to go with and easier frame to build something like this
Image

one reason for the change is it takes some of the material out of the build and I can get this type of rails pretty cheap from evil bitch, out of china. I also have two options for mounting the rail on top as in the picture or on the outside which will even make it easier to build the gantry,

with them on the sides I can also mount the screws under them so that they are out of the way

anyone see problems that can't be fixed with a sledge hammer?.

Looks good Dave, just keep in mind how large of a work area you want. You lose some on the ends and the front and back due to the framing. Well, the first picture you won't lose any on the front since the router will be out in front of the gantry.
I thought I was going to have about 20 by 24 inch work area, but ended up being 10 by 15".

that screen shot only has a 12 but 12 frame but the rest is actual size, I'm taking into account of how much extra to make the frame work to have a 24 by 24 table, on the X axis I need to be around 6 inches longer and the Y I need 5 with a spindle mount thats 5 inches wide, which will give me a frame work of somewhere around 30 X 30 not that it has to be exact, but I want to be able to run to Lowe's or HD and grab a 2X2 piece of plywood or MDF for a new table when needed and not have to buy a full sheet.

I was looking at 8020's website this morning and the prices on the extruded aluminum T slot stuff if you buy the surplus isn't that bad if I can get enough do the frame at one time I can save a bundle on shipping instead of buying one part at a time.

The more I think about it the more I think I'm going to go with this design and use the shown rails simply because I can hang the rails on the outside, but then again I've been looking at some other linear bearings that may allow for easier assembly.

Anyway time will tell, but I'm going to start ordered up some parts to play with before too long. I still hope to do this with a build cost of under 500 dollars start to finish so I have to put a lot of things on paper instead of my usual just buy stuff and hope it works and if it doesn't buy something else.

I'll keep posting things as I get them on paper so if you spot something that doesn't look Okie enough give a shout. But right now the Shop Monster is wanting fried taters and cornbread for lunch.
