Mike sent me the hunk of wood that is in the photo after I mentioned to him that it looked like it would make decent knife handles. So I finally got off my butt and started one that I'm going to use the Kwila wood to make the scales out of.
This is going to be more of a camp axe then a knife, I'm using a hunk of pickup (Ute) for the guys downunder that I found laying in the middle of the street.
Now for a couple more hours with the metal eraser to remove everything that doesn't look like a knife, going to have to make a trip to the hardware store for some 60 grit soft pads to remove metal faster.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
I like that style blade. How thick is it? Is it a leaf spring? Looks like it will chop some wood.
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
Jammer, yes its a hunk of leaf spring that I found laying in the street, its about .315 thick, and even thou its not finished I've been using it to cut back tree limbs on my back fence.
I'm not trying to make it pretty, just functional. The blade shape is copied from the shape of a Willow leaf, I canted the handle a few degrees to give a better angle to the edge.
I was also lucky today on Ebay and won a bounce house blower pretty cheap so hopefully I can melt some cast iron. I own the blower for a lot less then a new Vacuum cleaner motor would of cost, so here in about a week I'lll get to see if I can make enough heat to melt cast iron in decent quantities.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
That should make a great tree limb remover
I have one of those blow up play castle blowers sitting on the shelf here, cost me $30 on eBay, will use it one day when the vacuum cleaner that I'm using decides to stop working

Dallen, If your not trying to make it pretty then why does it look so friggin good??
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
cause your probably only looking at the one side that shows all the pretty blue color from me grinding on it. It is looking pretty good though, but I'mm not planning on miking it shine like it hd been polished out with diamond dust which if your not careful can make it look like black chrome.DavidF wrote:Dallen, If your not trying to make it pretty then why does it look so friggin good??
I split the block of Kwila Wood that Mike had sent me this morning to make the handle scales with, man that is some pretty wood on the inside,
Well back to trying to get this damn laptop back to where it was at when I bought it, been fighting bugs for three days now.
Oh yea and update on the blower, its in the mail is what the tracking number says, so hopefully towards the end of next week we can see what it will do, I have a damper that I can put on the outlet left over from my coffee roaster building days that 3 inch in diameter so that should be good to go with that.

I don't know about having and artist eye, but I do like this design for the simplicity of it.Rasper wrote:Because Dave has an artist's eye. He instinctively knows good design.Dallen, If your not trying to make it pretty then why does it look so friggin good??
