here's couple parts that I' working on for the shaper one is the pointer pattern, that I hope to pour tomorrow
and this piece, which is the scale that I think I'll just silver solder the cracked ear up so it won't go ahead and split off.
and this little part which is hopefully going to be the valve chest for a steam engine

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
todays casting, idler wheel for a friend that is trying to build a belt sander. Casting weights about 8 pounds I could of used a pound or two more of aluminum in the crucible when I poured it but I think it will be ok, biggest problems was without thinking I had my buddy put sand on top of the riser to hold n the heat. The damn sand sank into the molten metal and the riser sank down almost to the part, but after cleaning up the part I think it will be ok, have to see what happens after he machines the part.
Pressurized oil tnk that I put together out of a 20 lb propane bottle.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
Weather's been to hot to really do anything outside around here, but today it cooled off a little after a rain shower came thru. So I rammed up a small flywheel pattern that I have been working on the last day or two. Melted some bronze but the part didn't fill, the riser did which gives me a nice round hunk of stock if I need it.
Still having problems with my burner looks like it may be time to order a new nozzle, I have one around here somewhere but have no idea of where I parked it at.
I did dig out the camp axe that I started awhile back and did some work on it, I'm pretty happy with the way it handles with some scales on it, I'm really liking the wood. it works nice and is nice and tough.Hope to try the burner again tomorrow with the pressurized fuel tank and straight #2 weed killer in it (diesel fuel).

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
It's been hot here also. I haven't been able to do much outside the last week or so.
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
nothing like staring down the throat of a furnace running full out while trying to figure out what my problem with the damn burner is, and mother nature has decided to run the thermometer up to the triple digit mark.
BUT I think I found my problem, 1 the clamp on the oil line was loose, 2 found a tiny piece of trash in the nozzle. hoping to repour a small flywheel pattern that I tried to pour yesterday that failed although the riser I put in the mold filled completely.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
here's the photo of the second go round, nice big wide hot tear against the hub and some sand or slag in the hub so its no good. the Riser did stop the shrinkage problem. the hot tear is straight across from where the ingate was at so may be a bigger gate, anyway I'm done for today its warming up to fast for my tickers liking

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
well it rain here most of the day, so nothing done in the backyard, except stomp on mole tunnels where they are trying to destroy my yard. Shop monster won't mess with em he says they taste like chicken which he doesn't like.
I did get some work done on a small steam engine that I started trying to make for, which I hope will help me improve my small parts making ability.
Hoping to fire up the furnace tomorrow need to recast the flywheel, I tried to ram it up this evening but the recess in the part that was in the drag tore out so I said to hell with it and gave up.

I'm guessing you don't like mole Dave, we don't have them here......I did a bit of casting today, but I feel like I've been hit by a bus, so I shut every thing down and come insidedallen wrote:well it rain here most of the day, so nothing done in the backyard, except stomp on mole tunnels where they are trying to destroy my yard. Mike you hit the nail on the head I DON"T like Moles or Gophers as matter of fact I hate the little BAST%%D's, and I get up this morning and what do I find a BIG AZZ Gopher Hill right on the property line between me and the Neighbor. just hoping the little bastard shows up in my yard so me and the little monster can go on Gopher Safari, Shop Monster likes to play with them while they are still alive, they quit wiggling he's done with them.
Sorry bout the feeling like you've been hit with a truck, I get that way at times myself. I ended up getting too hot the other day didn't feel too good for the rest of the day. gotta watch the heat what with the ticker problems and the pills.
I'm hoping to fire up and for the fourth time try to cast this little flywheel pattern for the steam engine that I'm trying to make. Will post up some photos later if it turns out.
