swap meets, garage sales craigs list, I picked up both my spoke shave and 6" buck plane off of evil bay pretty cheap and got good old iron. same with chisels if you watch you can get some good stuff pretty cheap
For really small chisels HSS in 4 to 6 inch lengths make good ones.

didn't work on the project much today, had chores that needed doing. Well House needed some work on it before the cold weather we're suppose to get hits.

I did put in a little time with a file and rasp on the stock, then rubbed some light oil on it to get and idea of what the thing will look like after I put some finish on the wood. Hoping to get the forearm routed out tomorrow night.

first I want to say I got one heck of a guard dog, caught the little B!@#ard asleep on the job again.


I did manage to get in some work on the furniture tonight. First photo is a close up that shows where I started peeling some of the fat off of the butt stock, plus I got the forearm channeled out to saddle the barrel.


Second photo is a close up of the above photo, sorry about the glare.


I've got to shorten the butt stock about and inch to fix a screwup right up against the left side of the upper tang, will post a photo of it later tomorrow.

Mike, thanks, I just haven't screwed up big enough for you to see it in the photos, but the little screw-ups are there. But it is starting to look like something now that I have both pieces of wood where I can put them in place.

Todays job fix a little screwup and cut an inch off the front end of the butt stock which will also help it fit me better.

Thanks, was really thinking more along the lines of duct tape for the final assembly, its just to messy to keep taking on and off for all the fitup work that's still to be done,

got in some work on the rifle today,

first up is the knob that goes on the vernier screw for the tang sight that I hope to put together


Second is where I started turning the Windage Micrometer adjustment its a 1/4 X 40 TPI in the photo you can see where I made the scratch pass to check the setup. buddy of mine says he has a 1/4 X 40 die that I can check the thread with.


Third is where I cut the stock off and inch on the tang end not much to look at, I also planed the forearm down a bunch


Fourth shows where the hiccup used to be the wood is now higher then the metal.


Fifth is the forearm being fitted for a mainspring


Lots of chipping wood away one tiny chip after chip,
