It looks good. Is it as good as it looks in the photographs?

I must say I love that rifle. I have shot a .45-70 a number of times—the old Army rifle. I like those old big caliber rifles. I grew up around guns. My father and I hunted together. Four of his brothers had big tobacco farms in Virginia with plenty of game on them.

Do you really need 2 HP to run a narrow belt?

Up in California, where my other shop is, they sell 3 phase motors for almost nothing. No one can use them. Mostly for the weight of the copper I guess.

I found this almost new 2 HP single phase motor on Craig's List for 100 dollars. It's a Dayton.

Thanks yes it looks as good up close as it does in the photo.

I've shot it, and its a dream to shoot with it being as heavy as it is, its more like shooting a 22.

Yes, a lot of the commercial units have even more HP, grit causes friction.

Bet things have changed in San Diego, around here if its on Craigs list its either junk or they want new or more for the price,

I received a box the other day that had a bunch of casting wax in it that looked like it had been in a fire, but I think it was more from being out in the elements and was just oxidized and moldy, anyway I took a wood plane to the stuff and cut most of the crusty black looking moldy stuff off and then remelted it in a crock pot filled with water and using a plastic bowl to melt the wax in which was then molded up in yogurt containers into small easily stored, hunks.

Now I have some nice clean wax for when I need to make a wax model pattern for casting.

off onto something new to keep the juices flowing

I started on a little 22 rifle the other day, never know when you may be attacked by something smaller than a Buffalo.

Anyway I have most of the receiver done and figure that I might as well show you guys, seeing as how I can't work on the other one due to unforeseen things happening.

So here's most of the action I have all the parts but had to make a jig plate to fit the internal parts up with which is what you will see in this first photo.


Next couple of photos are of me using a hunk of junk to determine if I had the skills to drill the holes for the ejector which will be installed in the barrel when it gets here.

I will have do the same drilling operations on the barrel when it arrives. I will change the setup a little and instead fo drilling on the vertical C/L I'll use the horizontal C/L so that I can also cut the slot in the end of the barrel that the ejector fits into. That way I don't have to try to set it up on the mill..

That's about it so far, have the barrel and chamber reamer on order and they wil get here next week. Also purchased a slot cutter for the mill so I can clean up the trigger slot in the frame I made sort of a hash of it the first time,

Anyway its something to do while its cold and nasty outside.

I must know about the action. What is it? Lever action, rolling block? Are you going to chamber it for the .22 magnum?

We are having our good weather season right now. Between mid October and March we have the kind of weather that makes people think they want to live here. 86 F. in the day and 68 F. at night, with never any rain. Then, of course, in mid March it starts getting hot and humid.

yes its a rolling block, and yes it will be 22 magnum. no sense in using a lowly 22 lr when there's one just a little bit bigger and shop monster said he wanted a little kick in it.

this is destined to be the thumb stud/firing pin retainer I left it attached to the piece of stock that I used to make it with in case I have to put it back in the lathe for modification.



This photo is going to end up as the firing pin, I will cut it off when I know how long it will need to be and after I cut the notch in it for the retainer pin.



Two more of the parts almost finished.
