Beautiful craftsmanship, Dallen. I'm envious of your skills when it comes to machining and gunsmithing. Being a shooter all my life and having competed nationally for a couple years on the NRA circuit w/the 5th Army rifle team you can appreciate my envy and profound respect over the rifles you've made by hand. I pretty much got the barrel and receiver to match up last night had to surface grind one side of the receiver down some. Then I was able to fit the ejector into the end of the barrel, which is one tedious little process in its self you have to get it cut in so that the block closes but not so deep that it moves around and if you get more then about 5 10 thousands of clearance you have to cut the end off the barrel, an set the shoulder back and start over. Got pretty lucky and got it right the first time, matter of fact it may be a tad of the tight side, but its in and the block closes flat on the barrel.

Yeah, I always wanted a hex barrel rifle. I had a marlin .38/40 when I was a high school kid but, alas, it had a round barrel.

round ones don't take as much filing to finish out

A round barrel will tweak a bit out of line with heat after a lot of shots fired and if the weapon was sighted in with just three rounds, after 8 or ten shots the group will shift some off center. The hex barrels I've not heard of any tweaking in this situation. But they weigh considerably more than a round barrel does.

octagon barrels do the same thing, how much depends on the barrel but they all move when they heat up. like fluting it lightens a barrel but won't make a bad barrel shoot any better, it will make it look better thou.

got the little dab of work done that it took to drill the breach block for the firing pin and made a new firing pin.

I also made a holder for the ejector that will hold it in place in the receiver when I chamber the barrel, by making the space I can remove the breach block which will give me a lot more room to work the reamer in, and by being able to have the ejector in place I can cut the case rim recess in it at the same time as I do the barrel.

Plus I got to thinking the other night about furnaces and burners and such and I guess ya'll figured it out by now, I'm looking at making some new burner parts which if works will do away with the freaking Oring that keeps given me gas, or a suction leak at the least. I'll know more on this little project later in the week after I see if I can get the pipe that I need, may have to order it up, but there is a place here in the city that has sch 80 pipe which is what I need in order to cut threads the size I need on the inside of a couple pieces of the pipe.
