have the boss welded in and the tank ready to take to the car was for a purging of trash.

Is that a tear I see in the monsters right eye

I've often though of putting a heating element in my tank, but the weather doesn't get that cold, even in winter our coldest temp during the day would only average about 20 deg c 68 deg f for the ones that have problems with the metric system

I've seen oil that wouldn't burn unless it was heated, the biggest thing with this burner is that the warmer the oil is the easier it will flow thru the line to the burner.

Also I'll have the most tricked out oil tank in the neighborhood.

I doubt every seriously if the little 1500 watt element will actually get the tank up to a 100 degrees except on days that the wind doesn't blow or its about 70 degrees but every little bit helps.

I'm also going to put in a couple tapped holes for a sight glass tube at a later date, like when I order the tubes for the oilers I can add in a 3 foot section of 1/2 inch clear tubing and I'll have almost the minimum charge.

wired up and working, no to make an OSHA approved cover to hide it with. Plugged it in and listened to the oil sizzle for a spell tank was getting warm, if this helps any, I may just insulate and skin it to help hold in the heat.

and just to keep for getting off thread I worked on the new ratchet pattern some today should be ready to pour by Monday depending on weather.

working on the electrical cover, there's enough room in this cover for me to add in all kinds of stuff like switches for a fuel transfer/circulation pump and a few more if i think of something.

Then to keep the thread on track of casting here's the new ratchet pattern I'm making along side of the last one, some difference in size between the two. If the weather holds I want to pour it in cast iron next week.

I like the tank build. My water heater decided to split open and flood the back half of my house. Finally have the new floor down and getting back to normal. I did salvage the heaters and temp controller out of the heater, I my use them sometime.

Jammer cut the mounts for the element out of the old tank if you still have it so you don't have to make new ones. If I was to do this oil burner fuel tank over and could find one of the small 10 or 20 gallon hotwater heaters I'd just use it, no sense in reinventing the wheel. Save the mounts also.

covers in place with both power switch and a duplex plug cause there was room, its turned on and working as I type. there is still one tab that needs to be added to the tank to anchor the cover on the bottom. And I want to put in a indicator light that will show when the switch is on, may as well go for all the bells and whistles.

I kind of wish I would have kept it all. Trying not to get a bunch of junk in the yard until I get some things set up here. I doubt if I have any trouble finding an old tank, seems to be a lot setting out in town, probably for the asking.

your probably right, and I can understand the not wanting stuff laying around, it was just something that popped into my mind because I had to make the boss for the element to screw into. some of the element bolt in with a flange.

I got the cover almost finished still need to add an anchor point on the bottom, as you can see I also stuck a duplex plug in the side so as to have a couple plugs right there at the furnace so when I plug the blower control box in instead of just having the one extra plug on I'll also have one on the tank, guess it just depends on how you plug up to it as to how many you will have, but plugs are nice.

An like I said I want an indicator light to show when the things on and maybe one cause I can for when the element is actual hot or when the tank is up to temp.

How's the ticker doing and the weather in Tenn?

did this part today, which I think looks a lot better then the other ratchet that I have on the shaper now. BUT there is a problem with this one, and I'm hoping Frank will chime in on this one and let me know what I did wrong or what I need to change.

there is a shrink inside the red circle the gating is as it was poured.

how can I stop this from happening as I want this part in Cast Iron an if it shrinks with aluminum it going to do the same thing with Cast Iron in the same place unless I change something, like move the riser to between the part and the sprue, or make it bigger, or do both, or move the riser to the other side of where it has the shrink at.
