oh, I wonder why it slipped and kept coming loose? I know what type of holder your talking about, I usually use a setup like that for cutting keyways and splines in pulley bores. I wouldnt mind making an indexable tool holder with a boring bar to fit it one of these days, one of the art volz ones, it would defenitely make life alot easier, lol.
A shaper will defenitely shove a vise off of the table without much trouble at all, lol. My shaper is probably 1/2 the size of yours and Ive shoved stuff off of the table, ripped it out of the vise and sent it flying, and even broken 1/2" HSS bits like they were twigs without even trying, so the amount of power they have is insane.
Edit: I just saw your new post/video, Ive seen a few of those tool holders before and was it wanting to pull out of the bore or was there a through hole in the tool holder? If it kept wanting to pull out, then I wonder if you needed some more relief behind the cutting edge?

Speaking of machinery that cuts and shapes metal, my mill(RF30 ENCO) has been singing to me, and of late its starting too sing rather loud, so its time for a strip of the quill and replace the bearings, its been striped cleaned and I’m in the process now of putting it all back together, it has been a slow project, seeing that it didn’t need to be done last month, it may get finished next month, I love retirement LOL LOL

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
lol, any pics of the progress? I love watching machinery restorations and seeing them being fixed.
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
Short answer is no, but I'll see if I can take some pics of the reassembly

that would be cool.

Ok. got the thing cut, and at the same time remembered to get the video camera out and get proof that what I did worked, there's a few extra scratches but hey this is the first one of these thats been cut in the last hundred and fifty years.
anyway soon as I get the video off of the camera and put on the internet some place in the next day or two.

Looks like it worked pretty well, I just dont think Ive ever seen a shaper or anything running that slow tho, lol.
If your going to make more of those, I would make a few modifications to the tool bit, mainly to add side/top relief to it so it isnt pushing and pulling the full shape of the tool through the slot, just the bottom of the tool where the cutting action is taking place, that and make the tool a little narrower, then feed down one side at a time to get it to size, that way your not chewing up the sides of it like it was doing in the videos. Looked like it worked pretty good tho.
