Nudge

Post by mite5255 »

Hi Nudge, how are they going down in Christchurch, I believe they are having a few more aftershocks. It must be very worrying living there not knowing when the next ones going to hit. Mate of mine was travailing around the south Island a few months back and reckons its the most picturesque place he has ever seen

Ive been quite lucky. I live in Auckland in the north Island, so I'm too far away to feel any of the shaking.
I know a lot of people that live in Christchurch, most of them are at wits end and if they could move they would do it in a heart beat.
You want to look up what Christchurch looked like before the shakes, and see what it looks like now! There in not a lot left.

Yea Nudge I like the ground being nice and still also, I have only ever felt one earth tremor and that was in about 1977, it only lasted a few seconds but it did wake me up at the time

I live in California, land of the earthquakes so they dont bother me. Have never been a huge one though so that could change. A couple years back we were having swarms of 2s and 3s that were coming as close as 5 minutes apart for a couple weeks with some 4s and a 5 or two thrown in for good measure. Havent had much action this year so I guess tension is building, I think the geothermal plant up north of here causes some of this with all the cold water they are pumping into the ground.

We have a lot of them down here in Mexico as well. They register fairly high on the scale, but where I am the Earth under us is solid rock so everything moves in the same direction, unlike up in Mexico City where the whole place is built on fill. It's like jelly.
