Yea Rocco I know were your coming from, I reckon 50 acres or more of bush with a house with hight speed internet connection and large shed in the middle would do me just fine, but the wife likes being around people and needs social interaction.

Harry I agree, if there is no kids at home let the young family's have the time together

Not my wife Mike, I think shes worse than me. When the property next door to us sold and they built their house 1000' feet away my wife said it gettin' too crowded around here and we need to move.

If it were up to me and the wife.. and our pocketbook, we'd build a moat around our property .... with alligators :D

We have discussed that very same thing :)

One thing I have seriously considered and may well happen one day is building a berm around the property. I am thinking maybe 6 or 8 feet tall and wide enough on top to drive a pickup on. Put a fend on the outer side of the top and we have a 12 foot privacy screen. One issue for many on something like this would be water drainage but here our ground is sand so we wouldnt have any worries, I would just put a small sump in the low corner.

We are right in town, but if we or should I say when we get out, that is in our plans... there are a few houses like that around here. Works great if you have a longer driveway, too.

build the berm from the outside Harry then you got someplace for the alligators to reside except in southern california you'll probably have to buy water to fill it and need a permit for the gators. You don't have any of them little endangered ground rats living around you do you.

They have actually dug up a few gators in the field down in the valley. Back in the 70s it was a fad and even K Mart was selling them little finger biters. As they got bigger people decided they didnt want them when they became arm biters and set them free or flushed them. Its pretty rare but I remember a few years back a 3 footer was dug up.

No on the rats... well there are some that are semi protected but my property was cleared when we subdivided it. We do have Joshua trees but we have a 3 month burn season which starts tomorrow btw so no evidence left behind

Latz, I was thinking the drive would slope up one side have a little S jog on the top and down the other so no tight U turn on top which might limit certain vehicles from being able to get in.

Hopefully before I end up going that far though we will be able to get a larger piece of land with one of the many canyons around here and have a natural privacy screen of a mountain :)

Harry, have you ever seen a movie called "The Village"? That is another option, although I'd want electricity. But a house in the middle of 60-100 acres of forest preserve would be well enough i suppose......lol
