Thanks guys. Like I said it was hard to pass up, in better shape than the first one I looked at. Once I get it home, it'll be much better.

-dallen - I am in north central Illinois. About halfway between the windy city and the quads. This beast was 45 miles away in a town called Mendota.

-Harry - @ around 12,500 lbs I'm thinking even if I were to scrap it, I'd come out ahead... :D

Once I get it leveled, I'll build shelves (on wheels of course) over the last 5 or 6 feet of the bed. I certainly don't need something this big, but I have the room, the means to move it, so it wasn't much of a choice. I did find one in NY or NJ that would be perfect, 24.5" swing just like this, but only 30" between centers. Perfect for me, BUT they want $8000 for it. And I'd have to ship it or go get it from the east coast.. this one just made sense.

My building isn't 3 phase so, now I'm looking for a transformer or VFD. I'll likely go with the VFD until I can find a deal on a transformer. Transformers are anywhere from $1000- 2000. A VFD is a couple of hundred bucks. The VFD will let me run at 60-70% power which will be fine for my needs. Then I can just wait for a deal on the transformer.

Looking forward to this... now if I could just get someone to cast some bronze for me...... ;)

Moving day is Wednesday. Crane lined up, low boy trailer, 8 pcs 2" pipe, .. should be all set. Going to buy a bunch of 4x4's in the morning to build a skid underneath it.

Once its off the trailer, I'll be happy.. even happier when its cleaned and wired up. :D

oh yeah, I talked to Monarch a couple weeks ago and they told me it is around 14,500 - 15,000 lbs. Also, the handles and wheels go for anywhere from $500 to $1000. Guys will pay for them cause they drop or knock theirs over while moving. When I asked the tech if it was worth $300, he said, " For $300, you did OK...lol"

Well, the beast is in the shop! Went as I expected. Everybody kept all of the limbs. Got it pushed mostly into place. Will need to finish removing the skid I built underneath it and then level it... and then power and start cleaning... and ... anyway, its home.

Pics coming..

Wow, I've moved some big stuff but nothing that size. Although I did assist on moving a 100 ton injection molding machine and several other smaller ones. As long as it doesn't go through the floor you should be OK, if there's a chance of that happening put some metal plates under the legs to spread out the weight.
Pictures would be great! :)

Thanks jammer. Making some metal "feet/plates" to go underneath the levelers.

Go be a bit, but can't wait to start making some chips...

wish i lived closer I would of tried to of snapped up the other one for what you paid on the one you got. just too far to haul it, an no place to put something that size except in a friends shop. I do want one bigger then what I have. Sure could use a 2 inch spindle bore.

you get it running some video of it making chips would be nice,

I have laid pipe that was 20K lbs a joint, 400' a day :) Of course we had the equipment for doing that sort of thing on the job.

Latz, great to hear you have it in place... wow thats a lot of machine there.

Dave, Harry Thanks. It is a beast. A cousin of mine worked on pipelines, he showed up to help with a pair of straps rated 20-40K, which helped. We had warned him it was big, but his first word when the truck pulled up were, "Holy shit David, you said it was big, but....." I just laughed. Luckily the crane had no problem and didn't sink at all.

Still need to acquire the photos from the respective photographers. When I do, I'll post 'em up... Eventually when I get power, I'll make a video, but it'll probably be of a wood drum turning, unless I have bronze...

Anyone know where I can find a used rotary phase converter? Or plans to build one? I may have to get a VFD first and let it run on 2/3 power until I can afford a rotary...

What is the horsepower on the motor? It may be cheaper to find a single phase motor, you could get by with less HP for just wood and Bronze.
Is this a correct assumption you machine guys? I know it costs more to run single phase, but what's the cost to convert to 3 phase?
