Impromptu Car Show

Going to the post office this morning I saw that one of my neighbors was having some sort of shindig. There was a guy sitting out at the front of the drive so I pulled over and asked what was going on and if it was a private affair or open to the public. Well it turns out it was open and this was the fourth year he has hosted it, this year was special as it was the 90th birthday of Ed Iskenderian. They had several old dragsters there including one of Garlits Swamp Rats, the owner said it took him 40 years and over $100K to get Garlits to sell it to hem, this gentleman worked on that car back int he 60s when he was a teen and on other cars with Garlits over his career.

The neighbor is Lanny Trefz LTR Racing who builds engines in his shop on his property. I have lived here for 20 years and had never met him yet he lives less than half a mile away. In fact has is the next place down the road from me. I took a short tour through his shop which is needless to say amazing... just to give you an idea he has not one but two dynos in his testing room. I plan on stopping back in on him some time to just talk some when he doesnt have so much going on but he seems like a real down to earth type of guy and there might be some opportunities for getting some foundry work. I did exchange card with a few folks and talked with one person about a specific project they were wanting done so I might end up with a casting or two out of it.

Along with the top fuelers (there was half a dozen rails and a couple of old style real car body funny cars) about 40 or 50 people brought their own restored classics cars and motor cycles, I feel like an idiot for not bringing a camera but I will next year for sure. Anyhow, thought I would share this with you all, it was kind of strange being out in the middle of nowhere and stumble onto this little event so near my home.

That would be absolutely cool to come across Harry, not that I'm into the 1/4 mile stuff, The racing that I prefer has corners, left as well as right plus up and down hills, but a historic race car of any kind is wort keeping and restoring so they can still be enjoyed. It is a pity tho that you didn't have your camera I would love to see more.
I actually get a historic race car magazine each month from your country ,its called vintage race car. I would have loved to have been able the see the old can-am two seater racing from the 60's and 70's the noise from those cars must have been unbelievable, plus the racing would have been spectacular

That would be cool Harry. Years ago The band I was in played a Big bike rally that included drag races. Turned out, my singer was friends with "Tator" Gilmore, who at the time, was the top fuel bike racer. We hung out the whole weekend, each attending each others events, swapped stories, etc.. I've got a pic of me on his bike somewhere..

wow, what a cool thing to stumble across! Next time a camera is a must! I wonder why it hasnt gotten more notoriety as an event, considering the deep roots in the history of autsport?
