At work on Friday night they had a fire in one part of the electrical sub station at work, they end up with 13 fire trucks answering the call, last time this happened we only had one turn up. With it being a plastic extrusion plant any fire has the potential to send a lot of harmful toxic smoke into the atmosphere. They emptied all of our fire extinguishers then they started on the ones in the fire trucks, they were having problems get the fire to go out when some thought mmmm I wonder if we get the power shut down come in to the sub station that may help, any how on Saturday they got part of the factory up and running again and apparently its going to take 4 to 5 weeks to get us back up to were we were running waiting for parts to arrive.
Today Monday 25th it was suppose to be my 2nd day shift, at 5.30 am I received a phone call from the factory manager to say last nigh they had another fire , this time worst then the one Friday night and don’t bother to come in today and they’ll be in touch to notify us on what’s happening, I think I may be on holidays for week or more

Re: Fire at work
Bummer, sounds like they have some sorting out to do if it was the same thing that caused both fires.
A week off is usually never a bad thing though, I know when I had the regular workweek schedule if they told me I had no work for a week I was most often quite happy about it

I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints the sinners are much more fun...

Re: Fire at work
well that week off wouldn't be so bad if you was getting paid for it, I was off work for like a month and a half till last friday when I got a call to go do a hour and a half job so now I'm back at the house waiting for em to call me again.
nice thing is I get paid while waiting on em to call.

Re: Fire at work
I have no annual leave left but I do have about 12 weeks of long service leave owing so I'm guessing I'll be eating into that, which is paid at full pay rate

Re: Fire at work
We had a fire, or really just a big mess, we always have fires.
One of the nozzels came out of the tundish and let a 4" stream of steel run down through the caster. I guess we were down for 3 days to clean it up.
I'm off again for my heart, one of the stents from last year had some blockage at one end so the opened it up and put another stent there. I'll be off for 4 weeks and will get sick pay which is 100% for up to 12 weeks, this company takes pretty good care of us.
Just imagine one of these nice 5 1/2" square billets wide open with steel globs flying everywhere and no way to stop it.

Re: Fire at work
I wish all the strands were running, should be one more to the right. If we're running real good all 4 strands are going and the furnace is still waiting on the caster.
Re: Fire at work
That would be rather scary I would think.....Good luck with the stents mate I hope all goes well, isn't getting older just grandJammer wrote:We had a fire, or really just a big mess, we always have fires. One of the nozzels came out of the tundish and let a 4" stream of steel run down through the caster.
