Dallen...You OK in OK? Prayers for Oklahoma

Post by Jammer »

Huge tornadoes in Oklahoma today and yesterday. 51 dead so far, prayers for all those in the area.
Dallen, are you OK, I saw your picture yesterday on photobucket. Just hope all is well.

I was thinking about him yesterday—not because of tornadoes, but because we have not heard from him in ages.

thanks, but getting a stint put in ain't that big of a deal, the me being smart enough to say I'm going to the hospital and getting someone else to drive me was the smartest thing I did. That and taking a nitro pill that was out of date by like almost a year helped.

damn ole tickers been on the edge of stopping for quit a few years now, just have to watch it a little closer. But yea I'm still around not doing much casting, but still working on all the projects that I had started and which I'll probably only get half of em done by the time I kick the bucket which hopefully won't be for quite a few yews to come.

also started messing with pocketwatches found this one yesterday, its going to look great hanging from the bib of my overalls.

Hey Dave, I've been following your pictures on Photobucket. Watches are so small, I don't think I could work on them.
Sorry to hear about your heart troubles, they can sure do amazing things without cutting you open. Stents are a piece of cake anymore. Just take it easy for a while and do as your told. As much as you can anyway. :)

thanks for the compliment on the pictures. I used to think the same thing about watches till I finally got a magnifying visor and took one apart, you magnify it and they aren't so intimidating, is the little bitty screws you loose that will kick you butt.

Well I had heart troubles for many years before I had 5 way bypass surgery, I knew it was getting worse, anyway now me and the little dog go walking first thing in the mornings after eating a handfull of drugs. Jammer hows your ticker doing, if I remember correctly you got a bad one also.

that watch movement is one I just got off of EBay, still waiting on it to get here in the mail. Heres a picture of one that I won a couple months ago that is actually prettier but the dial is busted. This picture is how I received the watch Its and Elgin 18S lever Set watch in a Silver Alloy case that both the front Bezel and Back covers and hinged. I was able to actually get this watch to run but it has a Pinion on the Fourth Wheel that has a spot of rust on it and a Busted Jewel. The case cleaned up beautifully but the hinges need some work, as you can see the dial has some damage that could be repaired but the cost of repairing it is more than the watch is worth.

Almost forgot this watch was made in 1889.

I love pocket watches, especially when the cases are artfully done and the dials augment the casework. Sadly, I can't keep one on my person, nor a traditional wristwatch... my body, it appears, has some kind of energy field that royally messes up the innards of a traditional watch. Whatever comes in contact with my body in the form of metal will become energized too and no one knows how to remove the charge... hell... no one really can identify the charge either. It's like a combination of magnetic and corrosive to certain metals. A brand new pocket watch in my possession for more than an hour will become affected and will ultimately cease to ever function again. Not all Watch Smiths know of this phenomenon but they all say they've never seen someone like me till the moment I arrive ask'n for their help to fix my watches. Back in the early 70's I discovered the effect I had on watches after taking a pocket watch I had to a watch repair guy. He guaranteed his work but, after ten or more times to his shop for work'n on that damn thing he came to the conclusion something was amiss and that the watch was beyond his capability to make work more than 30 inaccurate (slow) minutes and he didn't know why. Several weeks later he called me back and said virtually every watch that came in for work after that developed the same problem... it was near putting him out of business. The institute that taught him suggested he throw out his tools and replace them with new and ensure he never uses the new tools on watches that he'd contaminated before with the previous set. He said he, now, marks each watch with a code on the inside that warns him of it having such a curse. Over time, each metal component inside and outside my watches develop a micro film of acidic substance that will literally corrode brass, patina stainless, and mildly rust steel and no amount of cleaning where I touch it will do any good. And, the magnetic aspect to my energy field (or aurora as some folks like to call it) I can literally feel it, myself, somewhat like a homing pigeon's acute sense of direction... I, too, can be blindfolded, rotated multiple times back and fourth, and lead through multiple rooms angling this way and that, and on any moment's notice can accurately point an object to true north and by verifying prove it's within no more than 3 degrees off one way or another. Yet... my body has no effect on a compass reading a magnetic field while in my hand... however... that compass WILL have to be thrown away within a week after as it's pointer pivot connection on the inside becomes corroded and starts make'n the needle stick and produce false readings. But my field doesn't offset the earth's magnetic field around me, is what I'm saying (which is why the compass reading isn't affected)... but, I can sense the earth's magnetic field reacting on my own energy field around me, though (if that makes any sense) which is why I can sense the earth's poles as subtle as anyone can sense the direction of a campfire's radiant heat close by. That's as best as I can explain it. Digital watches do fine with me, though, as do computers, so... it isn't like I'm handicapped in the new age of technology. HAHAHA.

Sadly, though... I have a pocket watch my wife gave me which has a picture of her and our first two sons she took in a photo booth once and had it affixed inside the face cover of a very expensive pocket watch. She made me close my eyes while she handed me the gift having no clue what she was about to cause happening. You guessed it... I told her this story and proved it... kept the watch with me for a couple hours, then put it in its own box and put away in the closet. Two days later that watch wouldn't work more than 20 to 30 minutes at a time. I still have that watch in my jewelry box. Can't get it to work more than 5 seconds anymore, and it's been professionally cleaned and inspected decades after it originally quit work'n. That picture in the face cap is irreplaceable which is why I keep the watch.

I've got a total of 4 stents, but I've never had a heart attack. Just caught it in time. My main problem now is low blood pressure, some days it's tough to walk across the room without getting light-headed and having to sit down. Actually got the boat out a couple time this month and went to South Carolina to see my new Grand-daughter. She's a cutie. My sons coming to Fort Sills in July through November, so much for missing the summer heat.
I'd like to come and visit him but I doubt if it will be possible. I have moved to south central Tennessee, better weather but a lot of pollen.
