Dont want to get into having to approve new members trying to figure out if they are real or not and making people email me to get approved. That just doesnt sound like fun at all. It seems the Q&A has been keeping the bots out as we havent had any since I got it active. As long as someone signing up can give one of the several answers to the challenge question they can sign up on their own and the bots cant figure out the answer.

perhaps you could make the answer a word found in a thread buried somewhere. make a post called "answer thread"...in the post, have three words, numbered 1,2, and 4. make the captcha question "what is answer 4 from the answer thread? no bot will have programming that could seek that out.

Well since we havent had a single spammer since switching to the Q&A it seems to be working fine, so long as someone signing up can come up with one of the correct answers which I dont think would be too difficult.

Another I thought of is "What is the fifth word in this sentence?" where the answer would be 'word'.

All of these ideas should work, but if it is working now just leave it be. It is only adding more to keep changing it all the time.

Yes, those bots index the forum for searching and they actually show up when they are here... kind of creepy if you think about it too much :?
