The sight is looking really good. Have you got the front one on already.
I need to bust up the ore and roast it a bit to get some of the sulfur out of it. I'll probably use charcoal, I thought I had some coke lined up but doesn't look like it's going to come through.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
What an odd place to put a rear sight. It's too close to the eye unless you have perfect vision and depth perception. Looks like it'll also get in the way of the hand used to work the trigger.
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
its really not odd, and the eye doesn't focus on it. its really no farther away from or closer to the eye then most scope eye pieces.
Shop Monster being good.

and what I've been working on for the last couple of days, profiling and sanding on the finger lever trying to get it ready for color case hardening, well the coloring part any way.

And if the battery for my cordless drill will charge up enough I plan to drill the hole in the upper tang for the screw that goes thru the stock.

That's the way they were made. This is a Model 1884 Sharps. What an odd place to put a rear sight.

I figure they were mostly for slaughtering Buffalo from stationary platforms such as railroad cars, wagons, and dirt embankments. Similar to shooting at targets from a bench at a target range.

Franks talking about the read sight. They also put regular Buckhorn rear sights on rifles back then, basically you got what you paid forRasper wrote:That's the way they were made. This is a Model 1884 Sharps. What an odd place to put a rear sight.

No they don't let them range this far east. But the gophers are plentiful this year, but the hides on the damn things are too small to really do anything with other then make hoof warmers for the shop monster.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
Especially when you blow a big hole it. Of course, with that sight, you should be able to get a head shot form 200 yards.
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
would really like to see the rest of that barrel and maybe the stock, if Richard has it hiding in the closet. sight looks pretty new.
