Baker Ball Hopper Monitor

Post by CastingIron »

I have completed a 3D model for a 4hp Baker Ball Hopper Monitor hit-and-miss engine.
I was able to get photos and measurements from a guy on ytube who owns two 4hp BHM's.

I have 3D printed several patterns, and have cast one pattern half for the gas tank in 356 aluminum.

This engine will be 1/2 scale, with a 14 inch diameter flywheel.

So far, the water hopper with its recess for the intake valve stem and valve chamber have been the biggest challenge to get correct.

Here is a gas tank 1/2 pattern in 356 aluminum, which turned out ok.

Surface finish is a bit rougher than I expected.
I cast this part face-up, and so for the other half of this pattern, I will cast it face-down.

I got the front partially buffed off with a sanding sponge in a tool-and-die grinder.

These pattern halves will double as a corebox and a pattern.
